Resources
A weight loss program is described as a structured pattern of activities designed to help a person lose weight. This program could be provided by a hospital, by a commercial company or by a healthcare professional. The three types of weight-loss programs include: do-it-yourself programs, non-clinical programs and clinical programs.
Do-It-Yourself Programs
These programs include any attempt to lose weight by yourself or with a group of equally motivated people. Individuals in this program usually rely on their own judgment, group support, and products found in diet books or on the internet.
Non-Clinical Programs
These programs may or may not be operated by a commercial company, like a privately-owned, weight loss franchise. They may often use books, pamphlets or online tutorials. They typically use information that has been prepared by healthcare providers. They may also use counselors to provide services. Some also require participants to purchase the program's food or supplementation.
Clinical Programs
Typically services are provided in a healthcare setting, such as a hospital, by licensed healthcare professionals, such as physicians, nurses, dietitians, exercise trainers and/or psychologists. These programs may offer services in behavioral modification, dietary training, exercise support and medical follow up.
